| Summary: | This study aims to describe the historical awareness of the people of Aceh Besar that arises through the process of oral traditions in hikayat and insofar as the oral tradition in hikayat plays a role as a medium of historical education in the community of Aceh Besar. Departing from the problem of the shift that occurred in the greater Aceh community who increasingly left the oral tradition of hikayat, even though in the hikayat contains values that are very important in hikayat and become an educational medium for the people of Aceh Besar. The formulation of the problem is how is the process of birth of historical awareness of the people of Aceh Besar through oral traditions in hikayat as a medium for historical education?. The research method used is ethnographic research with a qualitative approach. Data collection is done by in-depth interviews, observation and documentation. The results showed that the people of Aceh Besar knew about hikayat, hikayat was an oral tradition that developed in a large Aceh community that was also inseparable from oral literature and literacy, the oral tradition of the people of Aceh Besar in inheritance was a legacy of the values contained there in which could foster awareness history of the Aceh Besar community, one of its main values is the historical value and it can be said that reading is a medium of public education that is included in norformal education that provides knowledge of local history as an initial form in giving birth to historical awareness, a form of historical awareness can be seen from community understanding and pelestraian , appreciate the tradition of hikayat. |
