Summary:Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi oleh rendahnya keterampilan membaca pemahaman siswa kelas IV Sekolah Dasar. Sebagian besar siswa memiliki hambatan dalam memahami isi teks yang dibaca. Artinya para siswa masih mengalami kesulitan dalam menangkap informasi penting, intisari, dan maksud dari sebuah teks. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendekripsikan penerapan metode pembelajaran Generating Interactions between Schemata and Text (GIST) untuk meningkatkan keterampilan membaca pemahaman siswa kelas IV SD. Penelitian ini menerapkan metode penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) model Kemmis dan Mc. Taggart. Partisipan penelitian adalah 30 orang siswa kelas IV di salah satu Sekolah Dasar Negeri di kec. Sukajadi kota Bandung, semester genap tahun pelajaran 2018/2019. Data dikumpulkan melalui teknik observasi, tes, dan catatan lapangan. Data kualitatif dianalisis melalui prosedur reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Data kuantitatif dianalisis dengan menerapkan analisis rata-rata dan persentase ketuntasan belajar klasikal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan model pembelajaran Generating Interactions between Schemata and Text (GIST) dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa kelas IV SD. Kata Kunci: metode GIST, membaca pemahaman. This research is motivated by the low reading comprehension skills of fourth grade elementary school students. Most students have obstacles in understanding the contents of the text being read. This means that students still have difficulty in capturing important information, essence, and intent of a text. This study aims to describe the application of Generating Interactions between Schemata and Text (GIST) learning methods to improve reading comprehension skills of grade IV elementary school students. This research applies the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method of Kemmis and Mc. Taggart. Participan in this research were 30 fourth grade students in the elementary schools in Sukajadi district, Bandung City, even semester 2018/2019 school year. Data collected through observation techniques, tests, and field notes. Qualitative data were analyzed through data reduction procedures, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Quantitative data were analyzed by applying average analysis and percentage of classical learning completeness. The results showed that the application of the Generating Interactions between Schemata and Text (GIST) learning model could improve the reading ability of grade IV elementary school students.
