Penelitian ini membahas beberapa keresahan berdasarkan perkembangan media dan informasi di masyarakat. Peneliti menaruh perhatian pada efektivitas pembelajaran IPS yang selama ini diterapkan dalam perkuliahan agar mahasiswa Pendidikan IPS Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia dapat menjadi bagian yang literat terhadap media dan tidak terbawa arus informasi yang bias. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian survei dengan teknik analisis Structural Equation Models (SEM) yang efektif untuk menguji hubungan antar variabel yang kompleks. Penelitian ini memiliki dua variabel laten yaitu efektivitas pembelajaran IPS sebagai variabel eksogen dan variabel literasi media sebagai variabel endogen. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan yang kuat sebesar 0,90 antara efektivitas pembelajaran IPS terhadap literasi media di kalangan mahasiswa Pendidikan IPS. Sementara komponen sarana dan prasarana menjadi konstruk paling kuat dalam mempengaruhi efektivitas pembelajaran sebesar 0,71. Sehingga untuk membentuk mahasiswa yang literat media, diperlukan pengadaan sarana dan prasarana yang lebih lengkap mencakup fasilitas hard skills dan soft skills. Researchers pay attention to the effectiveness of social studies learning that has been applied in lectures so that students of Social Studies of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia can be a literate part of the media and not carried away by biased information flow. This research is a survey research with Structural Equation Models (SEM) analysis technique which is effective for testing the relationship between complex variables. This study has two latent variables namely the effectiveness of social studies learning as an exogenous variable and the media literacy variable as an endogenous variable. The results of this study indicate that there is a strong correlation of 0.90 between the effectiveness of social studies learning to media literacy among social studies students. While the facilities and infrastructure components were the strongest constructs in influencing the effectiveness of learning by 0.71. So as to form media literate students, more complete facilities and infrastructure including hard skills and soft skills are needed.
