Description
Summary:Entikong Subdistrict in West Kalimanatan Province is the border area of which directly borders Indonesia and Sarawak, Malaysia. Due to the issue of development gaps in the borders of these two countries, it certainly will affect nationalism attitude of the local people. This research is held under a qualitative study with a case study approach. The objectives of the research are to describe the general demographics of economic, social political, defense and security conditions as well as law and human rights on local people in the Indonesia-Malaysia border (Entikong district of West Kalimantan), and to describe the understandings and attitude of nationalism, internalisation of nationalism value, as well as to discover the inhibiting factors of nationalism on the borders community in Entikong District, West Kalimantan Province. There are 50 respondents with various background participating in this study. The results of this study show that in general, economic, social political, defense and security, law and human rights conditions in the Indonesia-Malaysia border are getting better, in which socio-economic gaps of people in both countries do not really affect nationalism attitude of Indonesian people due to the development in all sectors. Internalisation of nationalism value by Indonesian government is well-carried out through formal and non-formal education. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factor for the internalisation of the value of nationalism lies in the suboptimal role of family and local cultural customs in living and stilling a senseof nationalism. Those things happen because the level of education the quality of human resource are still low. Thus, the people still do not know the best way to internalise the value of nationalism within the family neighborhood. The Indonesian government also continues to accelerate infrastructure development programs and strengthen the enforcement and legal certainty related to the economic, social political, defense and security fields, as well as law and human rights. Keywords: internalisation, nasionalism, nasionalism attitude, borders community
