Summary:This research is conducted to address low students' speaking performance and many teachers who are unaware of how to build rapport. This study is a mixed method research with sequential explanatory model which aims at investigating the relationship between the two dimensions of teacher-student rapport and students' speaking performance and discovering teacher's strategies in building rapport in an ELT context. The result shows a significant positive correlation between teacher connectedness and speaking performance (robt = 0.735), a significant negative correlation between student's anxiety when interacting to English teacher and students' speaking performance (robt = -0.670), three related aspects of rapport and speaking performance, and teacher's strategies to build rapport Keywords: correlation, ELT context, rapport, speaking-performance, teacher-student rapport
