In learning the German language, learners must be proficient in four language skills. They are listening, speaking, reading, and writing. As a matter of fact, one of the most important skills is listening skills, because it is the earliest stage for someone to learn a language before stepping on the stage of speaking, reading and writing. Along with the development of technology, a combination of listening comprehension and watching the situation at the same time, called Hör-Sehverstehen, is nowadays getting recognized. One of the German textbooks that is commonly used in Indonesia is the textbook Netzwerk A1. In this textbook there are exercises to help learners developing their proficiency in Hör-Sehverstehen. The purposes of this study are to find out 1) the type of Hör-Sehverstehen exercises contained in the textbook Netzwerk A1 as a data source, 2) the spectrum of the Hör-Sehverstehen exercises in the data source, and 3) the compatibility of the Hör-Sehverstehen excercises in the data source with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The type of assignment and scope of Hör-Sehverstehen's material were analyzed based on the theory from Rösler and Würffel. The following results were obtained in this study: 1) There are 67 exercises categorized as vorbereitende (preparation) exercises (6), unterstützende (supporting) exercises (40), and weiterführende (advanced) as well as vertiefende (in-depth) exercises (21). 2) The textbooks Netzwerk A1 consists of 26 Scenes which are divided into Scenes with one type of task (6), Scenes with two types of tasks (16) and Scenes with all three types of tasks (4). 3) No compatibility is found between the Hör-Sehverstehen material and the CEFR. There are no descriptors available for level A1 in the CEFR. This study can be used as a reference for teachers to optimize German language learning process, particularly the proficiency of Hör-Sehverstehen, by arranging assignments to complete the types of tasks that are not yet available on Scene to be discussed. |
