Summary:The research background of the wayang golek Sukabumian (WGS) is the condition of the oral tradition which is in danger of extinction which is marked by no more WGS performances in the community. The inheritance process of the WGS that stops in the third generation and there is no targeted inheritance effort. The purpose of this WGS research is to describe the history, structure, language, function, and to compile the inheritance pattern. This research is expected to provide theoretical and practical benefits. The WGS research method uses qualitative research methods with an autoetnographic approach, which focuses on processes and results. The process is research itself involving personal experience in understanding WGS. The research product is an in-depth description of the WGS and the inheritance patterns that are carried out. WGS research locations are primarily centered in Sukabumi and Bogor. Several cities and districts in West Java were selected based on the informants' domicile related to research data. Data obtained through interviews, observation and participation, as well as documents related to WGS. The findings of the research are (1) the names of the puppeteers and the historical plot of WGS, (2) the structure of the WGS performance in the Trimurti Wiyanggana play and Patih Nurjaman, (3) the use of the puppeteer language in the WGS performance, (4) the function of the WGS, and (5) inheritance of WGS. The selection of WGS plays that were studied was based on the number of WGS puppeteers and performances available. The conclusions of this research, among others: 1) WGS is a source of learning how we live towards the next life, as well as a source of innovation to provide mutual benefits between oral traditions and their preservation. 2) The structure of the WGS performance has a peculiarity that is full of persuasive messages which are instructive in the theme of the play and the message of the puppeteer. 3) The language used by the puppeteer at the WGS show is Sundanese as a wayang dialogue, Kawi as the standard, Indonesian and foreign languages as a complement to the show. 4) WGS functions as (a) education which contains the ideology of Pancasila, social life, morals, and the syiar of Islam by providing an example; (b) entertainment; (c) complex and noble art; (d) economy; (e) means of conveying messages; and (f) means to achieve achievement. 5) The inheritance of the WGS is a concrete effort in maintaining the continuity of this oral tradition. Innovation and creation are needed in the inheritance process, namely the comprehensive inheritance to maintain the continuity of this WGS and inheritance that is divided to attract the interest of young people.
