This study carried out the development of air freshener products with water as a solvent for lavender oil. Because water and oil have different polarity and do not dissolve each other, a surfactant is needed as an emulsifier and CO2 and LPG gases as propellants. This research studied the effect of surfactants on emulsions, the effect of solvents, and propellant gas in making air freshener formulas. The research conducted included analysis of lavender oil content with GC-MS, concentrate formulations, emulsion stability tests on concentrate formulations, room freshener formulations, and air freshener quality tests. Emulsion stability is determined by looking at four aspects including; turbidity level, the amount of oil content on the surface, light absorption, and turbidity measured by turbidimeter. The results showed that the emulsion with the surfactant Tween 80 was more stable than the emulsion with the surfactant glucam P20 and a mixture of tween 80: glucam P20. The concentration of the Tween 80 surfactant was the most stable with a concentration of 0.6%. The water solvent produces a wet spray and the perpendicular spray pattern does not spread. The ethanol solvent produces a fine, misty spray and a diffused spray pattern. Air freshener with LPG gas produces aerosols with spray weight values that are not much different between formulations, while air fresheners with CO2 gas produce different spray weights with significant values.
