The problem is that the errors of language factor as well as the errors of culture factor done by the students of English native speakers, when they use Bahasa Indonesia (BI), often yield misunderstanding between both interlocutors, Indonesian native speaker and English native speaker It happens for the foreign students' native language and native culture are negatively transferred into the target language as well as the target culture. Based on this condition the writer has conducted a research on this matter by doing two kinds of analysis; comparative analysis (CA) between BI and English, and error analysis (EA) on seven English native speakers who learn Indonesia language. The research is aimed to discover language distance as well as culture distance and the significant pattern of errors done by the data sources for which both distances and the pattern of errors will be useful in formulating the guidelines to plan the teaching of BI to the. native speaker of English. The research method used is deductive-qualitative approach.which is applied to a study case on seven students of BI. The reason of choosing this method is that the researcher is interested in; 1) the participants'meningful knowledge in leming BI, 2) finding the regularity, not proving or disaproving the hypotheses, 3) the process rather than simply the products.The place where the research was conducted is at STTII Yogyakarta, middle Java. The findings are as follows; 1) it is found out that the language as well as the culture distance between both languages and cultures are very big (different), 2) It is found out that there are some very significant errors in each language factor (phonology, morphology, syntax, and lexical) and in culture factor (form, meaning, and distribution), 3) The errors come out to be the result of negative transfer of the students1 native language and native culture into the target language and the target culture, 4) The teaching treatment of all the errors must be based on the nature of each error (each error needs different treatment of teaching) and must contain some particular stresses on the exercises concerning all kinds of enor found to be main problem for the students, 5) The guidelines in planning the teaching of BI to the native speakers of English are: (1) Stating clearly the goal of teaching BI as a foreign language based on the students'need of learning BI, (2) Preparing the authentic teaching materials containing the units of language and culture errors that become the main problem for the students, (3) Constructing procedural steps of teaching based on the learning and teaching theory being adopted^ to be trained to the teachers/instructors which must be relevant with the materials of teaching and the goal of teaching, being reached, (4) Preparing the stages of the achievement tests to evaluate the students* progress and to get the backwash for the whole process of learning and teaching BI, (5) Providing the process of teaching and learning with adequate supporting means.
