Tantangan zaman dan permasalahan yang semakin kompleks mengharuskan pembelajaran matematika tidak cukup untuk menguasai ilmu hitung-hitungan saja akan tetapi harus dapat menjawab permasalahan dunia nyata. Kemampuan literasi matematis sebagai kemampuan minimum yang harus dimiliki. Literasi matematis merupakan kemampuan untuk merumuskan, menerapkan, dan menafsirkan matematika dalam berbagai konteks kehidupan sehari-hari. Masalah dalam kehidupan sehari-hari memerlukan pemikiran terbuka dalam memberikan jawaban dan cara penyelesaiannya. Oleh karena itu peneliti merasa tertarik untuk mengkajinya. Adapun tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kemampuan literasi matematis siswa dalam menjawab masalah open ended. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif. Peneliti memilih 10 siswa kelas VI yang mampu memberikan jawaban. Hasil temuan yang didapat oleh peneliti adalah siswa kelas VI sekolah dasar SDN Batukarut II memiliki kemampuan literasi matematis yang masih rendah. Hal ini ditandai dengan siswa belum mampu memahami masalah, menyederhanakan masalah, mengerjakan dengan prosedur matematika, dan mengembalikan ke masalah nyata. Siswa dalam mengerjakannya masih berpaku pada prosedur rutin, sehingga dalam mengerjakan soal open ended masih belum bisa. Hal ini karena siswa terbiasa dalam mengerjakan soal yang memiliki informasi lengkap dan tidak memerlukan pemikiran logis dan aplikatif sehingga kemampuan literasi matematis siswa berada pada level 1. Kemudian respon siswa terhadap soal literasi matematis yang open ended cukup baik. Siswa tertarik dengan soal namun kurangnya pembiasaan sehingga tidak dapat mengerjakan soal yang telah diberikan. ----- The challenges of the times and the increasingly complex problems require that learning mathematics is not enough to master the science of arithmetic but must be able to answer real world problems. Mathematical literacy skills as a minimum ability that must be possessed. Mathematical literacy is the ability to formulate, apply, and interpret mathematics in various contexts of everyday life. Problems in everyday life require open thinking in providing answers and ways of solving them. Therefore, researchers feel interested in studying it. The purpose of this study was to determine students' mathematical literacy skills in answering open-ended problems. This study uses a qualitative method. The researcher chose 10 grade VI students who were able to provide answers. The findings obtained by the researcher were that the sixth grade students of SDN Batukarut II had low mathematical literacy skills. This is indicated by students not being able to understand problems, simplify problems, work on mathematical procedures, and return to real problems. In doing this, students still adhere to routine procedures, so that they cannot work on open-ended questions. This is because students are accustomed to working on questions that have complete information and do not require logical and applicable thinking so that the students 'mathematical literacy skills are at level 1. Then the students' responses to open-ended mathematical literacy questions are quite good. Students are interested in the questions but lack of habituation so they cannot work on the questions that have been given.
