Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa SMP yang masih rendah sementara tujuan pendidikan itu sendiri antara lain membekali siswa berpikir kritis. Sebagai upaya untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa, dilakukan pembelajaran dengan metode inkuiri yang dimodifikasikan. Pembelajaran ini erat kaitannya dengan kemampuan berpikir kritis sehingga diharapkan penerapan pembelajaran ini dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa. Tujuan penelitian kuasi eksperimen ini adalah untuk mengetahui : 1) Apakah peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan metode inkuiri lebih baik daripada siswa yang mendapat pembelajaran dengan metode ekspositori, 2) Kualitas peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran denga metode inkuiri, 3) Sikap siswa terhadap pembelajaran matematika dengan metode inkuiri. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 15 Bandung. Sementara sampel tidak dipilih secara acak, melainkan peneliti memilih kelas sehingga terpilih kelas VII E sebagai kelas kontrol dan kelas VII H sebagai kelas eksperimen. Pokok bahasan yang dijadikan bahan ajar adalah bangun datar segitiga meliputi jenis segitiga, sifat-sifat segitiga istimewa, jumlah sudut dalam segitiga, kelilingdan luas daerah segitiga. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis yang disusun berdasarkan indikator kemampuan berpikir kritis menurut Ennis, angket sikap siswa, jurnal harian siswa, dan lembar observasi. Berdasarkan analisis pada seluruh tahapan penelitian dapat disimpilkan bahwa: 1) Peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran inkuiri lebih baik daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran ekspositori, 2) Kualitas peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa kelas eksperimen tergolong sedang, sedangkan pada kelas kontrol tergolong rendah, 3) Sikap siswa terhadap pembelajaran matematika dengan menggunakan metode inkuiri tergolong positif. This research is derived from the fact that Junior High Students' ability in mathematic critical thinking shows poor result. However, the aim of education directs to develop students to think critically. As the effort to improve students' skill in mathematic critical thinking, the implementation of modified inquiry method was conducted. The method strongly relates with students' critical thinking Skill where the implementation is aimed to improve students' skill in mathematic critical thinking. The objective of this quasi experiment research is to discover: 1) The information whether improvement of students' mathematic critical thinking which is treated by inquiry method is better than students' skill which is treated by expository method, 2) The quality of students' critical thinking improvement who is treated by inquiry method, and 3) students' attitude toward mathematic instruction by inquiry method. The population of this research is all of seventh grade of students in SMP 15 Bandung. The sample is not randomly chosen, but it is purposively chosen. As the result VIIE class is chosen as control class, on the other hand VII H class was chosen as experimental class. The topics for this research are about triangle which includes the type of triangle, special characteristics of triangle, the total angle of triangle, and circumference and area of triangle. The instrument which is utilized in this research is mathematic critical thinking skill test which is arranged based on the indicator of critical thinking skills according to Ennis, questionnaire of students' attitude, Students daily journal, and observation sheet. According to the analysis of research syntax, it can be concluded that : 1) the improvement of students' mathematic critical thinking skill which treated by inquiry instruction is better than students' skill which is treated by expository instruction, 2) The quality of students' mathematic critical thinking skill in experiment class is categorized as medium, on the other hand the result of class control is categorized as low, 3) Students' attitude toward mathematic instruction by using inquiry method is classified as positive.
