Summary:This research is motivated by development of performance assessment bsed on problem based learning studies is still rarely carried out in vocational high schools. Performance assessment has a better chance of measuring more complex skills and communication. Performance assessment is carried out directly to students using a rubric guide format according to students practical activities. Performance assessment is part of the 2013 curriculum. The curriculum requires the use of 21st century learning strategies, one of which is problem based learning. The purpose of this study was to design a performance assessment format with reference to the stages of problem based learning based on the principles of knowledge, reasoning, skill, product and affect using a design based research method. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The validation used in this study uses expert judgment. The research results show (1) There is no format for performance assessment based on problem based learning based on the principles of knowledge, reasoning, skill, product and affect (2) A performance assessment based on problem based learning has been designed based on the principles of knowledge, reasoning, skill, product and affect. (3) Performance assessment based on problem based learning based on the principles of knowledge, reasoning, skill, product and affect has been tested on students. The results of the show the assessment instrument is included in a fairly good category, so that it can be used by teachers to conduct assessments on practical activities.
