People will find difficulty when they read stories of foreign language because of their different culture. That is why a translator is needed. The most difficulty faced by the translator is when he must translate the cultural words of a story because of different cultures. In one side he must be faithful with the content of the story but he also has to make the translation as natural as possible. In this research, the researcher tried to find out in what categories the cultural words found in "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" novel are divided and what procedures are employed by the translator to translate the cultural words in the novel. In the end, the researcher come to the conclusion that cultural words can be translated using some procedures. Most of cultural words were translated using transference and literal translation. The cultural equivalent is needed when the equivalent word does not exist in target language so the translator can substitute it with cultural word ofTL. In the end, the translator should be aware of one thing. He can treat cultural words freely but it does not mean that he can put any words to substitute the cultural words of SL but he has to make the translation as closest natural equivalent to the source language message.
