Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kepribadian tokoh utama yang memiliki integritas dalam novel Janji karya Tere Liye. Kepribadian tokoh utama dalam novel tersebut dianggap menarik, karena perubahan karakter tokoh utama yang kepribadian sehari�harinya berbanding terbalik dengan tindakannya. Dalam diri tokoh utama, telah tertanam integritas yang kuat sehingga seiring berjalannya waktu, keintegritasannya pun semakin kokoh. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif yang mendeskripsikan fenomena dalam suatu tulisan yang bersifat naratif. Metode penelitian kualitatif merupakan penelitian yang menggunakan latar alamiah dengan maksud menafsirkan fenomena yang terjadi dan dilakukan dengan jalan melibatkan berbagai metode yang ada. Teori yang digunakan oleh peneliti adalah model alur dan pengaluran Tzvetan Todorov, teori strukturalisme Robert Stanton, dan teori psikologi sastra Sigmund Freud. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan struktur cerita, mendeskripsikan struktur kepribadian, dan mendeskripsikan penguatan integritas yang dilakukan tokoh utama. Dari hasil analisisnya, ditemukan bahwa tokoh utama memiliki kepribadian yang cenderung dikuasai oleh superego, dan melakukan mekanisme pertahanan diri sublimasi, proyeksi, reaksi formasi, agresi, apatis, dan stereotip. Kata kunci: kepribadian, psikologi, integritas, tokoh utama The background of this study is the personality of the main character who has integrity in the novel Janji by Tere Liye. The main personality in the novel is considered interesting, because the change of the main character whose daily personality is inversely proportional to his actions. Within the main character, a strong integrity has been embedded, therefore, over time, his integrity is getting stronger. This study utilizes a descriptive approach which describes phenomena in a narrative writing. Qualitative research method is research which uses a natural background with the aim of overcoming the phenomena that occur and is carried out by involving existing methods. The theory utilized by the researcher is Tzvetan Todorov's plot and plot model, Robert Stanton's structuralism theory, and Sigmund Freud's theory of literary psychology. The purpose of this study is to describe the structure of the story, describe the structure of the personality, and describe the integrity of the integrity of the main character. From the results of the analysis, it was constructed that the main character has a personality that is controlled by the superego, and performs sublimation defense mechanisms, estimates, formation reactions, aggression, apathy, and stereotypes.
