520 |a This research paper entitled "An Analysis of Subtitling Strategies in The Film Entitled P.S. I Love You" is purposed to identify the strategies that are employed in film subtitling, the translation error in film subtitling, and the possible causes oftranslation errors in subtitling "P.S. I Love You" Film. The answer to this research paper questions is found out by comparing the film dialogue with film subtitle. Since it is a qualitative study, the writer uses descriptive method and collects the sample with purposive-snowball sampling technique. The data are gathered from the internet, the original VCD of"P.S. I Love You" film, and also from the library. After analyzing the film subtitling the writer finally finds that the translator of the film uses 10 strategies of subtitling devised by Gottlieb. It is also revealed that there are some translation errors in "P.S. I Love You" film subtitling such as untranslated words, incorrect choice of diction, mistranslated words (words that are out of order), grammatical error and general errors. The possible causes of translation errors are found out to make a deep discussion in analyzing the film subtitling. Basically the possible causes of translation errors in film subtitling are due to the inappropriateness in employing the subtitling strategies and also the lack oftranslator's personal skill.
