Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh permalasahan yang dialami oleh peserta didik dalam pembelajaran menulis, khususnya menulis teks esai. Permasalahan yang dialami oleh peserta didik berasal dari faktor internal seperti belum memahami materi menulis teks esai, lemahnya keterampilan berbahasa yang lain, dan rendahnya motivasi peserta didik dalam menulis serta faktor eksternal seperti metode pembelajaran yang masih tradisional dan sarana-prasana yang belum dimaksimalkan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengujicobakan metode Hypnotic Speed Writing sebagai alternatif penyelesaian permasalahan dalam menulis teks esai. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen kuasi dengan desain penelitian nonequivalent control group design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah peserta didik kelas XII SMA Negeri 1 Cimahi. Sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitan ini adalah kelas XII IPA 1 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas XII IPA 5 sebagai kelas kontrol yang dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Intrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini antara lain tes (pretes dan postes), observasi, serta angket. Hasil dari uji hipotesis penelitian ini menunjukkan nilai signifikan 0,006. Mengacu pada kriteria Sig. (2-tailed) < 0,05 maka Ha diterima dan Ho ditolak. Dari kriteria tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara kemampuan peserta didik dalam menulis teks esai di kelas eksperimen yang menggunakan metode Hypnotic Speed Writing dengan peserta didik di kelas kontrol yang tidak menggunakan metode Hypnotic Speed Writing. This research is motivated by the problems experienced by students in learning to write, especially writing essays. The problems experienced by these students come from internal factors such as not understanding the writing material, the weakness of other language skills, and the low motivation of students in writing as well as external factors such as traditional learning methods and infrastructure that have not been maximized. This study aims to try out the Hypnotic Speed Writing method as an alternative to solving problems while writing essays. This study uses a quasi-experimental method with the research design of Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population in this study were students of class XII SMA Negeri 1 Cimahi. The sample used in this research is class XII IPA 1 as the experimental class and class XII IPA 5 as the control class which was selected using purposive sampling technique. The instruments used in this study include tests (pretest and posttest), observations, and questionnaires. The results of the hypothesis test of this study showed a significant value of 0.006. Referring to the criteria of Sig. (2-tailed) < 0.05 then Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. So, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the students' ability to write essays in the experimental class using the Hypnotic Speed Writing method and the students in the control class who do not use the Hypnotic Speed Writing method.
