Summary:The present study aims to investigate how reading for pleasure (RfP) can be implemented to a young English as a foreign language (EFL) learner to support their enjoyment in reading. This study employed a qualitative case study research design involving a seven years old young EFL learner in Indonesia. The data were obtained through multiple sources including a learner diary, audio-recorded observations of 10 RfP sessions, and an interview with the learner's parents. A thematic analysis was utilized as a data analysis method to generate RfP principles supporting the learner's enjoyment in reading. In analyzing the suitable principles, the present study referred to the 15 principles of rooted in reading by Willshaw (2013). The results found that out of the 15 principles, only 13 principles could be implemented to a young EFL learner in the current study. These principles were further contributed in teaching reading with enjoyment to the learner. It was proven by how its implementation could improve the learner's attitudes towards reading and even emerged his great showcasing of reading comprehension skills. Considering the analysis result, the study recommends following each principle and further generating the best ones that suit learners' English language proficiency and learning situation so that a better result in terms of teaching reading with enjoyment can be obtained.
