Summary:Translation is aprocess of rendering the meaning and the form written in the source language into the most appropriate meaning and form of the target language in order to make it acceptable and comprehensible for the reader Translation has been human's necessity since it connects people in one place to the other which have different language. People can also enjoy the translation of the English iterary work of foreign authors. One of elements in novel, as literary work, is dialogue. It holds important role because dialogues live up the story of the novel. Dialogue, as language form, has three functions; Expressive Mormative, and Vocative function. Vocative is the one tends to make the action from the addressee. This research tends to analyze the translation methods and procedures applied in the translation ofvocative dialogues. The writer conducted the descriptive qualitative method. This method allows to produce a systematic and factual description about the data. To answer the research questions, the writer analyzed the methods and procedures used to translate vocative dialogues. Guidelines and principles of translation proposed by Newmark (1988) become the ground substance in the process of analysis n _ ^ .result of me ^dy sh°wed that there were 6translation methods and 12 translation procedure found in the translation of vocative dialogues Communicative method places the first highest in the distribution of translation methods with 64%, and Paraphrase is the translation procedure which™ frequently used by the translator in translating the smaller lexical unit of those dialogues with the total number 25%. The writer concluded that communicative is the best method to translate vocative dialogues in this novel because it tends to make the addressee to react to think, or to feel as the speaker's intention. Therefore, the discourse whose purpose is vocative must beas communicative as possible.
