520 |a This study aims to compare the 2013 PAI curriculum and the independent curriculum in terms of policy, fundamental differences, the conceptual implementation process by PAI teachers in schools, using curriculum development theory. This study used a qualitative approach and content analysis method to the text documents of the 2013 curriculum and the independent curriculum which were explored through documentation studies and strengthened by interviews, then analyzed through the stages of reduction, display and inference. This research found three essential things: (1) The government launched the Independent Curriculum as a response to the phenomenon of underdevelopment of education in Indonesia, which is in accordance with the principle of relevance in curriculum development; (2) The basic difference between the PAI curriculum in the 2013 Curriculum and the PAI curriculum in the Independent Curriculum lies in the simpler material, more flexible implementation, and the implementation of the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project. This corresponds to the principles of relevance, flexibility, continuity, practicality and effectiveness; (3) Implementation by PAI teachers is carried out by first understanding the conceptual differences between the PAI curriculum in the 2013 Curriculum and the Merdeka Curriculum, both in the components of objectives, materials, implementation strategies, and evaluation. This is in line with the principle of relevance.
