Description
Summary:Identity crisis is a lifetime problem for every individual because identity is something arbitrary and hard to be defined. This issue also becomes a relevant topic in literary works, such as movies. Using Marcia's (1980) theory of identity status and Pickering and Hoeper's (1981) theory of characterization, this qualitative study aims to examine the identity crisis faced by the main character of Senior Year (2022) as well as the factors. Through the movie transcript, this study finds that the character experienced three identity crisis stages during her identity-constructing process in two periods of her life, which are teenager and adulthood. A number of internal and external factors influenced the main character's crisis. The case of this study is expected to convince people that identity crisis may happen anytime and to help people understand their and others' identity better.
