Description
Summary:The research is entitled The Use of Role Play Technique in Improving Students' Speaking Ability (An Experimental Research in the Eleven Year Students in One of Vocational Schools in Bandung). It aims to investigate the effectiveness of using role play technique in teaching speaking skill and also to find out students' responses for role play technique. Quasi experimental design is used to find the effectiveness of such teaching technique. The samples of the research are selected purposively from the students of the eleven year in One Vocational School in Bandung. The samples are put into two groups, i.e. experimental and control groups. Each group consists of 24 students. Both of the groups take pre-test and post-test. Role play is used to teach speaking in the experimental group as a treatment. The research proposes null hypothesis. The data are obtained through pretest and posttest and analyzed by using paired sample t - test. The data analysis show that role play technique seemed to be effective in improving students' speaking skill significantly (t obt is higher than t crit; 5.929 > 2.000, r = 0.658). There are five main aspects that enhance the use of role play technique in vocational school such as grammatical words, accent, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. In conclusion, role play technique can be an alternative for teaching speaking because it can help students to improve their communicative competence.
