The purpose of this study was 1.) To investigate the strategies applied by the translator in translating bilingual children story books; 2.) To identify whether or not the meaning in the bilingual children storybooks is successfully transfered. This study applied the Skopos theory and Equivalent based theory as the foundation of this study. This study employed a descriptive qualitative study design. Total sampling was applied to collect the data. The data were collected from the texts of the bilingual children storybooks or document analysis. The researcher analysed the documents using the microstructural analysis introduced by Leuven Zwart (1989), an expert in translation study which developed a comparative model of texts analysis, where the source texts and target texts was compared to identify the translation strategies. The analysis was based on the unit of translation at sentence level , which consist of 185 sentences. The data from 185 sentences shows that: 1.) There are fourteen (14) translation strategies applied by the translator. It consist of: Descriptive Equivalent 1 (data), Notes 2 (data), Paraphrase 3 (data), Recognised Translation 2 (data), Quadruplets 13 (data), Synonymy 13 (data), Transference 12 (data), Transposition 27 (data), Triplets 29 (data), Expansion 39 (data), Reduction 49 (data), Couplets 67 (data), Modulation 70 (data) and Cultural Equivalent 97 (data) in total of 424 translation strategies. 2.) The result showed that there were thirtyfive (35) data which had unclear meaning which consist of: Modulation 14 (data), Reduction 9 (data), Couplets 7 (data), Triplets 2 (data), Paraphrase 1 (data) and Expansion 1 (data) which have unclear meaning. This study concludes that the translation strategies applied by the translator was in line with the skopos theory and Equivalent Based Theory. overall, the meaning transfer of the bilingual children storybooks are considered successful. The Skopos or the purpose of translating the bilingual children storybooks is also identified, which are to help the children in learning English as well as the adults and the the bilingual children storybooks are expected to be accepted in the market. This research recommends that the translator should increases his/her translation competence in order to produce a good translation product which is suitable and clearly understood by the target readers or receivers, especially the young learner. The editing process must be conducted several times for the same reason and for the readers, parents or teachers, it is expected that children read many books which have an educating content, interesting story and illustrations in one package, because with constant exposure of the storybooks, children will obtain the knowledge of some unfamiliar words and the meaning.
