Summary:This final project is an action research. The aim of the study is to investigate whether the use of picture series can improve eight grade students' ability in writing recount text. There is no doubt that writing is the most difficult skill for second language learners to master. The eight grade of SMP Bakti Bangsa Bandung also faced the same problem above. Based on the observation conducted, it was found that the students' ability in writing recount texts was still far from what was expected. This research was conducted a classroom action research in order to improve students' writing ability. This study employed classroom action research method and will adopt cycle model developed by Kemmis (1986). This method is to observe people and their environment. It consists of four steps in conducting the Action Research i.e planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. This action research was done in two cycles. The results of this research indicate that using picture series can improve students' ability in writing recount text especially in organization paragraphs and content. Moreover students are able to improve their ability in writing recount text. Based on the result of classroom action research, the researcher can make conclusion that picture series are appropriate to influence and guide the students in writing recount text. Teaching recount text by using picture series is an affective way to solve the problem faced by students in terms of developing and exploring ideas to write in recount text, coherently and chronologically.
