Description
Summary:The study was intended to investigate the use of Mind Mapping Strategy (MMS) in teaching writing in high school contexts focused on writing narrative text as the most appropriate writing types for high school students. The main problem was whether teaching writing through MMS improves students' writing ability, especially is composing thesis statement, providing supporting ideas, writing a grammatical and coherent essay in a good organization. This study was conducted at SMAN 1 Lembang with sample divide into experimental class and control class. This study involved 88 respondents based on random sampling. The data were obtained from pre-test, treatment, post-test, and questionnaire through experimental research. Based on the statistical analysis by using SPSS 14, the findings could be summarized that generally both classes performed better achievement on their writing ability but the experimental students gained higher writing achievement than those of the control students. According to the research findings the significance of experimental class is 0.88 toward control class. It means that students of MMS group significantly performed better writing ability than those in non MMS group. The findings can be adapted as a promising considerable alternative in teaching writing to students' high school. English teachers can modify and improve their teaching technique in the hope that the student writing ability will be improved.
