Description
Summary:The present study is entitled "Translation Procedure of Religious Terms in Islamic Short Stories Compilation Malaikat tak Datang Malam Hari". This study was intended to find out the translation procedures used in translating religious terms in bilingual Islamic short stories compilation Malaikat tak Datang Malam Hari. This study was conducted in descriptive method. The data were collected by document analysis. The data collected then were analyzed through translation procedures based on Newmark (1988). The findings of this study revealed that the translator uses six procedures: transference (64,70%), literal (14,70%), naturalization (5,88%), descriptive equivalent (5,88%), couplets (5.88%), and adaptation (2,94%). Transference procedure was the mostly used to translate religious terms into English, while adaptation procedure is the fewest. The decision for using transference procedure to translate almost of religious terms show that it was considered the appropriate procedure to deliver the same messages from one language into other languages. The use of this procedure may make the translation result has same syntactical form and the stylistics feature as the source language and also can maintain the accuracy and semantic values of the source language. In addition, the translator might not find any equivalent terms in the target language that can be used to replace those terms. The translator seems to believe that the reader will understand those terms in their original forms, therefore the translator prefer to used transference procedure than other procedures.
