520 |a Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) is one of the profitable commodities, so it is widely planted by farmers in Indonesia with the virginia variety, which is quite high in production. Tobacco is known to have antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal activity. To get this effect, tobacco can be extracted using pyrolysis and maceration methods. Tobacco contains alkaloids, flavonoids, and terpenoids which have antifungal activity. Candida albicans is a fungus that can cause infections in various organs, like the ear, also known as otomycosis. This study aims to determine the comparison of the inhibition of pyrolysis extract and macerated tobacco extract on the growth of C. albicans in vitro. This research is a laboratory experimental study with extract concentrations of 20%; 40%; 60%; 80%; and 100%. Data obtained from the diameter of the inhibition zone around the well. One-way ANOVA test showed that there was a significant difference between the concentrations of pyrolysis extract and maceration extract of tobacco. Post Hoc test showed significant differences in pyrolysis extract at concentrations of 20% with 60%; 80%; and 100%, concentrations of 40% with 80% and 100%. The post hoc test on maceration extract showed a significant difference between the concentrations of 20% and 100%. Pyrolysis extract has a stronger inhibitory power than maceration extract. The concentration of 100% in both extracts had the greatest inhibitory power. This happened because there were compounds inhibiting the growth of the fungus C. albicans, namely alkaloids, flavonoids, and terpenoids contained in the pyrolysis extract and maceration of tobacco leaves.
