Description
Summary:Liver disease has become one of the leading causes of death in recent years in the world. The death rate caused by liver disease reaches two million death each year. One of the liver diseases that can cause death is non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). In western countries, about 20-30% of the population has non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. The leading cause of NAFLD is the consumption of a diet high in saturated fat and a diet high in carbohydrates such as fructose and sucrose. A diet high in fat and carbohydrates triggers obesity and insulin resistance which are risk factors of NAFLD. This review aims to give insight into the effect of quercetin as an alternative treatment for NAFLD patients based on a histopathology study of the liver. The purpose of this study using the Systematic Literature Review research method is expected to demonstrate the effect of quercetin on the histopathological examination of the liver with fatty liver induced by a high-fat diet in vivo. Systematic Literature Review with a literature search using PubMed and Google Scholar that discuss quercetin, NAFLD, high-fat diet, in vivo. Seven studies concluded that quercetin could improve the histopathological image of the fatty liver with a high-fat diet in vivo. Quercetin improves the histopathological appearance of fatty liver induced by a high-fat diet in vivo.
