Summary

Indonesia is a developing country that uses external debt to help the country's economic development, thus causing Indonesia's external debt to increase every year. The purpose of this research is to analyze the factors that affect external debt in Indonesia. The variables used to influence external debt include exchange rates, exports, imports, and government expenditure. This research uses time series data for the period 1990-2019. The research was conducted using multiple linear regression analysis in the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) model using Eviews 10 software. The results of the multiple linear regression analysis show that (1) exchange rate have a significant and positive effect on Indonesia's external debt, (2) exports have a negative and significant effect on Indonesia's external debt (3) imports have a positive and significant effect on Indonesia's external debt, (4) government expenditure have not significant effect on Indonesia's external debt.
