| Summary: | Instagram is one of the social media platforms that used by public. In recent years, Instagram has launched a multiple account feature that allows users to use more than one account on the same device. The phenomenon of using a second account Instagram by teenagers is increasing day by day. Based on katadata.id, the millennial generation is the most Instagram user in 2021. The purpose of this research is to find out what is the background of teenagers having a second account Instagram and what are the motives for using a second account Instagram on teenagers. This research method using a qualitative through a phenomenological approach. Data collection techniques are devided into two, primary with in-depth interview with informants, there were six informants who interviewed. This data validity techniques is member check, because the researcher have to reviews by the informants. The concept in this research are motives, media, new media, social media, Instagram, self-disclosure, and the Johari window. The results of the research researchers describe through four phenomenological stages, namely horizontalization, significant statement, theme analysis, and phenomenological reduction. There are several motives behind the teenager using a second Instagram account, such as environment, privacy, trying to be yourself, freedom, self-image, and being selective.
