520 |a Based on data from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world with approximately 17,504 islands and has a coastline of 108,000 km making Indonesia the country with the second longest coastline in the world after Canada. The potential of marine and fishery resources owned by the Indonesian nation is a potential that can be optimized for management. However, there are still many violations committed by fishermen in the exploitation of marine and fishery potential that cause marine imbalances to damage marine ecosystems. The formulation of the issues raised is how to regulate the law of fisheries against illegal fishing and how to apply criminal sanctions against illegal fishing perpetrators. The type of research used in the writing of this thesis is Normative Juridical Research where this writing will examine library materials or secondary data as basic materials, then the data collection technique used is Library Research. Furthermore, after the necessary data is collected, the author conducts an analysis of cases related to this thesis material. The results showed that 1) the Government of Indonesia through the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries has created and formed regulations related to fisheries crimes, 2) The application of criminal sanctions of Fisheries Crimes has not run optimally.
