| Summary: | Burnout is a condition resulting from prolonged stress at work that is uncontrolled. The COVID-19 pandemic caused an increase in the workload of healthcare workers, one of the triggers for stress in the workplace, which eventually leads to burnout. The research design used is a systematic review using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Protocols (PRISMA-P) 2015 method in a literature search strategy in three online databases covering the literature from January 2020 to July 2021. Nine pieces of literature fulfill the inclusion criteria. This systematic review involving 2,871 health workers across the continent show high variability in the prevalence of burnout and its three dimensions, with the overall burnout prevalence range in healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic is 14.9-90.4%, Emotional Exhaustion 19.2-84.3%, Depersonalization 2.5-66.1%, and Personal Accomplishment 0.7-66.1%. Female healthcare workers and those working in the frontline tend to be more vulnerable, and workload is one of the factors influencing burnout. It is essential to prevent the impact of burnout which can be initiated with regular check-ups using the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) on healthcare workers in every health care institution. |
