520 |a Tobacco is one of the most important plantations and trade commodities in Indonesia. Apart from being used as a material to produce cigarettes, tobacco can also be used as herbal medicine since tobacco specifically, its leaves contain secondary metabolites with antibacterial properties, including phenols, alkaloids, and essential oils. The aims of this study were to determine the antibacterial effectiveness of tobacco extract on the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis. The design of this study was experimental with tobacco extract samples obtained from the Department of Chemical Engineering, the University of Indonesia with concentrations of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%. Antibacterial testing was performed using the disk diffusion method on the Mueller Hinton Agar medium. One-Way ANOVA test results with p-value = 0,000 indicate that there was antibacterial effectiveness of tobacco extract on the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis. A concentration of 100% generated the biggest inhibitory zone with 6.35 mm (S. aureus) and 5.9 mm (E. faecalis).
