Description
Summary:The purpose of this study was to determine the representation of sexual violence against children in the film 27 Steps of May which was analyzed using Charles Sanders Peirce's Semiotics. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research method. The approach taken in this study uses the triangle meaning semiotic Charles Sanders Peirce to find out in looking for signs in the film. The subject of this research is the film 27 Steps of May. This film raises the issue of sexual violence which is still a social problem in Indonesia. The object of this research is seen from May's point of view as the main character, namely a victim of sexual violence and May's father and magician who are supporting roles as a support system for May. The three roles played in the film are objects that are analyzed in depth to determine the representation of sexual violence against children in the drama film, 27 Steps of May. This research data collection by analyzing in depth the scenes in the film that represent sexual violence. There are three units of analysis in this study, namely icons, indexes, and symbols. The results of this study show that the scene that becomes a sign in this study is analyzed according to the triangle meaning of Charles Sanders Pierce. According to the results of the sign analysis, it can be concluded that the interpretation of sexual violence in the film 27 Steps of May has three meanings in the form of icons, indexes, and symbols which are analyzed with Peirce's triangle meaning semiotics. The first is the interpretation of sexual violence on the icon (change in May's attitude before and after experiencing sexual violence). Both interpretations of sexual violence on index marks (cause and consequences or consequences that May experienced from the events that happened to her). The third interpretation of sexual violence on symbols (forms of sexual violence and how May recovers from her trauma). So the recommendation from this research is that the film must be able to have an impact on the audience, the impact can be positive or negative, depending on how the audience absorbs and watches a film. Apart from being considered a reflection of life, films are also considered a good medium to represent the reality of people's lives and there is further research on the representation of sexual violence against children in the Indonesian film industry using semiotics.
