| Summary: | Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease that occurs either when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or insulin resistance or both. DM is a serious global health problem, as evidenced by the prevalence of DM which continues to increase every year. Management of DM cases is focused on lifestyle modification, pharmacological therapy, and supportive therapy. This study aims to determine the effect of giving yellow passion fruit seed extract on LDL levels in diabetic wistar rats. This study uses a true experimental research design with a post test only control group design. Samples of 30 male wistar rats, weighing 150-200 g, were divided into group 1 given standard feed and aquadest (Normal group), group 2 given alloxan induced 125 mg/Kg body weight (negative control), group 3 given alloxan and simvastatin 0.72 mg/200g body weight (positive control), groups 4, 5, and 6 were given alloxan and yellow passion fruit seed extract (100,200,400) mg/kg body weight, given treatment for 14 then checked LDL by spectrophotometry (λ=546nm ). One-way ANOVA test results showed the effect of giving yellow passion fruit extract on LDL levels and Bonferroni's post hoc test showed yellow passion fruit seed extract at a dose of 400 mg/kg body weight had the same effect as simvastatin (P = 1,000). |
