| Summary: | Sleep disturbance in patients undergoing treatment in the ICU (intensive care unit) is a problem that has not been taken seriously. Patients in the ICU are prone to have poor sleep quality. Environmental conditions are one of the causes of sleep disturbances experienced by patients, for example nursing interventions (measurement of blood pressure, temperature, pulse, routine care), noise (staff conversations, monitor alarms, visitors, television and telephone) and abnormal lighting. Nurses have an important role to improve the quality of sleep of patients in the ICU. One of the non-pharmacological therapies that can be given is the use of eye masks and earplugs. This study aims to determine the application of eyemask and earplug therapy to sleep quality in ICU patients. Sleep quality can be observed using the Richard Campbell Sleep Questionnare (RCSQ). The results of a case study from the application of eyemask and earplug therapy showed that patients experienced an increase in sleep quality for 3 days of implementation. It is hoped that this eyemask and earplug therapy can be applied to improve the quality of patient sleep during treatment in the ICU. |
