Summary:Hydraulic excavator is a heavy vehicle commonly used in construction work. The hydraulic excavator bucket construction must be strong enough to perform heavy work reliably. Optimization of the bucket design is carried out to obtain the best shape to reduce weight without affecting the strength of the structure of a component using the topology method. Analysis using Ansys Workbench R1 software. The material used is AISI 4140. The maximum stress results obtained were 194.53 MPa, 225.38 MPa, and 263.75 MPa, respectively. Displacement that occurred successively was 9.2517 mm, 11.679 mm, and 12.287 mm. The minimum safety factors obtained consecutively were 2.121, 1.8307, 1.5643. The position that gets the most maximum stress is optimized using a topology method with a different material, namely AISI 4340 because it has a significant tensile yield strength greater than AISI 4140. The optimization results obtained for the maximum stress that occurred were 456.33 MPa and had reduced the bucket mass by 33,68% to 3582,757 kg. The stress that occurs is still below the yield strength of the AISI 4340 material, so it is considered safe.
