Hyperglycemia triggers an increase in free radicals that will oxidize unsaturated fatty acids through lipid peroxidation to produce malondialdehyde. Flavonoids and tannins are bioactive compounds present in red pidada fruit (Sonneratia caseolaris) that are antioxidants. Through pure experimental research Posttest Only Control Group design with parameters in the form of malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, 30 wistar strain rats aged 2-3 months weighing 150-200 gr were held and then divided into 6 sample groups. Group 0 was given standard feed, group 1,2,3,4,5 were given high fat feed for 42 days and alloxan, group 2 was given glibenclamide drug therapy, group 3,4,5 were given red pidada fruit extract at a dose of 200mg/KgBB, 400 mg/KgBB, 800mg/KgBB for 14 days starting from day 29. One-Way Annova Test (p=0.000) and Bonferroni Post-Hoc Test showed significant differences from the administration of red pidada fruit on malondialdehyde levels at doses of 400 mg / kgBB and 800mg / kgBB. It can be concluded that red pidada fruit extract can reduce MDA levels and has a therapeutic effect even though it is not as good as glibenclamide drug therapy.
