| Summary: | This study aims to describe the interpretation of students both verbally and non-verbally in interpreting the news given by the mass media who won the theme of the detention of celebrity Lucinta Luna with the meaning analysis method using multidimensional reception analysis theory by Carolyn Michelle. The main focus of this research is how students interpret the messages conveyed by online mass media related to the news that raises the Transgender issue as the main topic of discussion. The research used a descriptive qualitative approach. To be able to conduct research in accordance with the framework, a paradigm is needed as the basis for research thinking. Therefore, researchers use the constructivism paradigm as the main foundation of thinking. The research was conducted using the phenomenological method. The researcher divided the research focus into four main points: urgency, meaning, response, and impact. Data collection uses the interview method with informant subjects as many as five students. The final result of this analysis will be a grouping of readers based on three evaluation groups, namely: hegemonic reading, contesting reading, and counter-hegemonic reading. Based on the results of the multidimensional reception analysis, the meaning produced by the informants is very diverse. After the analysis, it is known that two informants are in the hegemonic reading position and three other informants are in the contesting reading position. The adoption of the informants' sociocultural background and insights balanced with media literacy is the main key in influencing the interpretation of messages in the decoding position. |
