Description
Summary:Pneumonia is an infection of the lung tissue that causes consolidation, disrupting gas exchange. It is the leading cause of child mortality in the world. Based on Riskesdas 2019, the examination and management of pneumonia is still inadequate. West Java is one of the provinces with a large number of under-five pneumonia cases. Several classifications of the degree of childhood pneumonia and the classification of children's nutritional status have been updated. The management of pneumonia is assessed by the clinical condition of the patient. Previous studies showed different results between the association of risk factors with the degree of pneumonia. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between age, gender and nutritional status with the degree of pneumonia in children under five years old at Citama Hospital, Bogor Regency 2022. This study design used analytic observational with a cross-sectional method. Data processing was carried out in the form of univariate analysis and bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square test from 148 samples that met the restriction criteria. The results showed no association between age and the degree of pneumonia (P=0.248). There was also no association between males and the degree of pneumonia among under-fives (P=0.626). In addition, this study found no association between nutritional status and the degree of pneumonia (P=0.340). The absence of an association between the three variables and the degree of pneumonia could be influenced by the possibility of not varying the sample, the classification of variables and other factors that were not studied.
