Description
Summary:To enhance the effectiveness of wound suture learning through expert videos, students need to utilize effective learning methods. The objective of this study is to compare the effectiveness of self-learning and the modified Peyton's Approach (MPA) in wound suturing education for first-year medical students in Indonesia using expert videos. This experimental research involved 20 medical students. Initially, all students underwent a pretest. Subsequently, 10 students were directed to use the self-learning method as the control group, while the other 10 students used the MPA method as the intervention group. Both groups utilized expert videos. Following that, all students completed a posttest. The pretest and posttest sessions were individually recorded for subsequent review. The evaluated variables were skill scores and the total time required, analyzed using SPSS 24. The significance analysis results indicated that the skill scores and total time required by the control group had p-values of 0.000 and 0.013, respectively. The intervention group also showed statistical significance, with a p-value of 0.004. However, no significant difference was found in the effectiveness between the self-learning method and the MPA method, as indicated by p-values of 0.089 and 0.179. Nevertheless, the MPA group demonstrated better effectiveness in terms of skill scores and total time required. The conclusion drawn from this study is that both self-learning and the MPA method are effective in wound suture education, without significant differences. The MPA group showed better effectiveness.
