Summary

This study aims to discuss the form of religion-based diplomacy carried out by Pope Francis in seeking peace for South Sudan. In particular, this study uses the concept of religion-based diplomacy which is indirectly part of the concept of multi-track diplomacy, especially track seven. The method used in this study is a qualitative method using secondary data sources that researchers obtain from various types of publications such as books, journal articles, mass media, and official government publications. The data collection technique used was a literature study where the authors collected some of the previous literature and research related to the topic raised and then grouped according to the needs of this research. The results of this study indicate that the form of religion-based diplomacy carried out by Pope Francis to seek peace for South Sudan is by conducting spiritual retreats and papal visits. Pope Francis has contributed to the resolution of the civil war in South Sudan in particular by creating peace between Salva Kiir and Riek Machar who were previously in conflict and became the root cause of the civil war.
