| Summary: | Interpersonal communication plays a significant role as a standpoint whether or not the bond in a sibling relationship needs to be developed further or is already considered a close relationship with effective interactions, both verbally and nonverbally. This study aims to understand the representation of interpersonal communication in sibling relationship and to analyze the meaning written in the novel "Malibu Rising" by Taylor Jenkins Reid according to Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis. The method used by the researcher is qualitative with Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis approach to interpret denotative, connotative and myth signs in-depth. The research data sources are classified into primary and secondary with material object, namely the novel "Malibu Rising" by Taylor Jenkins Reid and formal object in form of quotations relating to interpersonal communication in sibling relationship. The results of this study show that sibling relationship usually takes place in six stages, including contact, involvement, intimacy, deterioration, repair and dissolution also has a few key factors such as family constellation and parenting style. Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis of the novel "Malibu Rising" by Taylor Jenkins Reid also found 20 quotations with denotative, connotative and myth meanings. |
