| Summary: | The hull is the body of the ship. The hull has a buoyant force that prevents the ship from sinking. The design of the hull shape is important in ship production, because it affects ship stability, ship plan speed, fuel consumption, draft / depth required in relation to the dock to see the depth of water where the ship sails. This study aims to analyze the resistance of monohull ships using variations in the angle of the step hull and catamaran model ships with step hull modifications. This research uses the computational fluid dynamic or CFD method with the help of Ansys CFX software which is used to model, analyze, and predict fluid flow behavior, heat transfer, and related phenomena in various applications. In this study, monohull and catamaran vessels were modified using a step hull with angle variations of 120˚, 150˚ and 180˚. At speeds of 8.05, 11.502 and 14.96 m/s, it was found that catamarans with modified step hulls experienced an average percentage decrease in drag of 6.11%, 180˚ angle experienced an average percentage decrease in drag of 1.7%, 150˚ angle experienced an average percentage decrease in drag of 1.14% while 120˚ angle did not experience a decrease in drag. |
