Summary:Background: There are still many residents in Indonesia who do not have breakfast, most of those who usually do breakfast have low quality breakfast. Objective: To know the relationship between breakfast habits and cognitive abilities and nutritional status in 5th grade elementary school students in East Jakarta. Methods: A mixed method parallel study design with a cross sectional approach. The study population at SDN Pekayon 05 and SDN Kalisari 05, East Jakarta, Pasar Rebo which involved 106 students was selected by stratified random sampling technique. Quantitative data analysis techniques used the Fisher Exact test to determine the relationship between breakfast habits and cognitive abilities and nutritional status, while qualitative data analysis used thematic analysis. Results: There is a relationship between breakfast habits and cognitive ability in short-term memory (p=0.004) and there is no relationship between students' breakfast habits and cognitive abilities on learning achievement and nutritional status. It was found that the driving factor for breakfast was the menu provided and the inhibiting factor for breakfast was getting up late before going to school. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between breakfast habits and cognitif abilities on short-term memory and students' breakfast habits, factors from parents, school and the menu provided.
