Indonesia is carrying out economic diplomacy towards Japan in an effort to open up market access expansion to increase exports of bananas to Japan through the framework of the Indonesia Japan Economic Partnership Agreement. This research seeks to find out how the cooperation, obstacles and various strategies carried out by Indonesia in its efforts to increase the trade of bananas to Japan in the 2019-2021 period. Theories and concepts used in this study are economic diplomacy, non-tariff barriers and economic partnership agreements (EPA). This research used a qualitative descriptive method which is a type of qualitative research. This research itself will use a case study approach which will analyze and describe various efforts of Indonesia's economic diplomacy towards Japan in an effort to increase exports of bananas during the 2019-2021 period. The results of this study show that trade in Indonesian bananas to Japan during the 2019-2021 period tends to decline. annually with an average valuation of US$ 1.51 million and an average weight of 2,411 metric tons during the period. Indonesia carries out various strategies of economic diplomacy to overcome various existing obstacles, both external and internal. The strategy adopted by Indonesia includes negotiations on the renewal of the cooperation agreement between Indonesia and Japan through a general review of the IJEPA, increasing domestic capacity, and also promoting Indonesian fruit products through exhibitions. The general review of the IJEPA itself has not yet been ratified by the Government of Indonesia and the Government of Japan. However, efforts are continuing to get approval and implementation of renewal of this cooperation soon.
