| Summary: | Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic disorders indicated by hyperglycemia, which is caused by defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. Metformin is first-line treatment as monotherapy if the patient has no contraindications to metformin. Unfortunately, metformin frequently causes adverse drug reactions (ADRs) such as gastrointestinal side effect. The purpose of this study was to comprehend the prevalence of gastrointestinal symptoms side effects in Type 2 DM patients in metformin therapy and the affecting factors at health center, Pasar Rebo District in 2020. Retrospective observational analytic with cross-sectional design. The study was conducted in April 2021. The research sample used medical record data of 79 patients' medical records at the DM poly of health center, Pasar Rebo District in 2020. From the 79 medical records, 46 people (58.2%) experienced gastrointestinal side effects. Factors of age (p value= 0,0006), BMI (p value= 0,002), and drug dose (p value= 0,001) were correlated with the occurrence of side effects of gastrointestinal symptoms, while the gender factor was not correlated (p value= 0,372).
