520 |a Dermatophytosis is the second most common fungal infection in Indonesia frequently caused by Trichophyton rubrum. The increase of fungal infection incidence rate can lead to medication resistance, therefore researches for other alternative medications are needed. Red ginger contains several antifungal compounds, such as alkaloid, saponin, flavonoid, and tannin. This study aims to identify the effectiveness of red ginger extract towards the growth of T. rubrum. This is an experimental study which uses red ginger extract with 10%, 25%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 75%. Agar well diffusion is used on this research using Saburoud Dextrose Agar. The average of the inhibition zone on every concentration are 0,45 mm, 0,19 mm, 2,6 mm, 4,8 mm, and 8,2 mm respectively. Kruskal-Wallis test shows p=0,001 which means there are differences in the effectiveness of red ginger extract tested towards T. rubrum growth. Mann-Whitney test shows significant differences on every group tested with p<0,05, except for the negative control group with 25%, 10% with 25%, and 30% with 40%. Red ginger extract shows antifungal effect towards the growth of T. rubrum as the bioactive compounds of red ginger works on fungal cell wall and inhibits the fungal replication.
