El problema que representa la perdida ósea en la enfermedad periodontal, es objeto de estudio desde hace años. Las técnicas para resolverlo han ido evolucionando e incorporando nuevos elementos a lo largo del tiempo. Desde hace algunos años se viene trabajando en la regeneración de tejidos mediante la implantación de células madre, el periodonto podría considerarse un potencial candidato para esta terapia.Se realizó la presente revisión bibliográfica con el objetivo de identificar el estado actual de las investigaciones con células madre y sus perspectivas, para la aplicación clínica en la Ingeniería Tisular del periodonto. La terapia celular regenerativa es un proceder que está dando sus primeros pasos, no obstante se han obtenido avances en múltiples enfermedades, por lo que la aplicación de las células madre adultas constituye una terapia muy esperanzadora para la regeneración periodontal.<br>The study of the problem that represents bone tissue lost due to periodontal illnesses started years ago. The techniques to solve it have been improved and new elements have been incorporated with the passing on time. Scientist have been working on the tissue regeneration through implanting Stem Cells The periodont could be considered a potencial candidate for using this therapy. This bybliographic revision has been carried out to identify the updated status of investigations with Stem Cells at present and their posibility to be clinically applied to the periodont tissue engeneering. The regenerative celular therapy is a procedure which is merely starting; however outstanding advances have been gotten with its use in several sicknesses that is why we consider that use of this procedure could be hopefully used in the periodontal regeneration treatment.
