520 |a This paper entitled The Effectiveness of Song in Teaching English Vocabularies to the Elementary Students was aimed to investigate the effectiveness of song in improving vocabulary mastery of the elementary students. The study employed one group pretest-posttest of pre-experimental design to the fourth graders of SD Negeri Sukamenak Indah 1, Bandung. The data were collected through pretest and posttest and analyzed by using paired sample t-test on SPSS 12 for Windows Program. The result of the t-test revealed that the obtained t is greater than critical t (t obt. (3.582)> t crit. (1.721), at p=0.05). It means that the null hypothesis was rejected. There was a difference of students' achievement in vocabulary mastery before and after the treatments song. The vocabulary of the 4th grade students in SD Negeri Sukamenak Indah 1 was better after a number of a sequence of four treatments by using song. Thus, song was effective in teaching English vocabularies to the elementary students. However, to a lesser extent, the song selection, the song aids and the teacher role support the improvement of the students' achievement in vocabulary mastery.
